One of Sinclair's very last calculators, the President was a desktop model released in February 1978, with the more advanced President Scientific released not long thereafter. It faced strong competition from cheap and less power-hungry Japanese LCD calculators. Consequently, it was not a great success.

It was rather ironic, considering Sinclair's status as "Europe's one remaining calculator company", that the President models should actually have been made in Hong Kong!
